intelligibility issues - after multiple Dirac Live
Recently switched from Arcam to Integra DRX 8.4 for 2 reasons, ability to use Balanced Connection from McIntosh preamp and secondly a setup to enable both stereo music listening along with home theatre
The setup
- McIntosh c2600 for music sources (DAC and Turntable)
- Integra a AV receiver with eArc for TV
- Rotel Michi x5 to drive front 4ohm 300 w floor standing speakers, with Pre-Out from integra connected via balaned out from integra to balanced in on Rotel
Issues
- Run multiple dirac calbration using umik 1 but similar result , intelligibility is not great…feels like there is a heavy curtain in front of the speaker, unless i use dialog enhance but then i loose the bass and other frequecy for musicality
- Using factory supplied mic results are interestingly different, but same issue intelligibility is still an issue
Solutions tried
- Ran dirac live during day time and evening (late evening) no difference - using Umik 1
- Factory resent twice - but no difference
Overall in movie mode - performs well in many ways better than Arcam, but with intelligibility issues the engagement is lost
Stereo Mode - as above the musicality feels lacking as instruments and other higlighter more , even tried using the equalizer mode but it creates other issues , for each source then the response curve changes

Hello Arun,
I'm sorry that you are having an issue with the audio through the center channel when using the calibration. What I would like to know is, if you were to reset the receiver then without doing any type of calibration to the speakers, are you experiencing the same effect as if it was calibrated with the Dirac? Also have you ran the AccuEQ calibration that is built within the receiver and if you did, are you getting the same effects as if it was done by Dirac? Have you also tried as a test the RCA connection for just the Center channel to see if you are getting the same effects that you are mentioning?
Thank you
Jennifer
